1 October 2013

It’s with a great amount of sadness that I closed the shop on Poplar Road on Saturday 21st September 2013 after 3 wonderful years in the heart of Kings Heath.

The lease was due for renewal at this point and for a whole multitude of reasons I have decided not to extend this further. I do hope that all my amazing customers understand the considerable overheads, decay of the property and general difficulty of trying to run a small business in this struggling climate has taken it’s toll. Instead I’m happy to bring you all the news first that I will be taking the business mobile from the beginning of October. So don’t worry about those Christmas presents, Christmas baubles with Mistle-toes on etc, I’ll be firing from my workshop at home all the way up to Christmas! The shop will be closing, but the business will be carrying on!!! Hooray!!:0)

In the first instance I will be based at the Victorian Tearooms in Kings Heath Park every Thursday and Friday from 10.30am-4.30pm from October until Christmas, offering pottery painting, hand and footprinting and other craft based activities. Together we are hoping to test the market for Parties, both children and adults, based in the conservatory at the tearoom on Saturdays and Sunday’s. I will be providing the pottery painting activities and the lovely ladies at the tearoom sumptuous food and refreshments. I think we will make a formidable team and details of the packages and prices we can offer can be found on the party pages of this website. If you would rather hold a pottery party at home or in another venue, just give us a call, everything is really portable, and we’re more than happy to bring ceramics to you.

Regular feedback from customers has been about providing tasty refreshments whilst they create their master pieces, with our lack of space and facilities this has always been a challenge, but one we very much hope to over come with this exciting new partnership.

In addition to this we will be providing pop up workshops and master classes in other venues and locations around the West Midlands, we are currently negotiating spaces at Ruby Roo’s in Moseley, a church in Kings Heath and have spoken to the ladies at the new haberdashery in Moseley Guthrie and Ghani about hosting workshops or evening classes there. All details of any dates will be advertised on our website and on our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/allfiredarts and on twitter @allfiredarts. We’ll keep you up to date through newsletters also.

Need a commission plate, bowl, signature plate etc. We’ll still be taking orders for these and they can be ordered through our websitehttp://www.allfiredarts.co.uk/k_comm.php under the commissions and keepsakes section. If you can’t find a design you like, please just drop me an email allfiredarts@gmail.com or call me on 07793557322 for a chat, quote or ETA.

We have always offered mobile school and community sessions, but will be looking to extend upon this over the coming year. We’ve worked with multiple Brownie, Guide, Scout and Woodcraft Groups in the region as well as offering pottery painting and decopatch sessions at schools such as Kings Heath Primary, Wheelers Lane Technology College, The Priory School Edgbaston, Nishkam Primary, Whychall Primary and Boardsley Green Girls to name a few.

We can tailor the sessions to meet curriculum subjects and learning outcomes, can design work and fact sheets to accompany activity or run full craft/art or creative days on request. Working on economies of scale we can offer highly competitive per head rates, for more detail or information about availability please call Annie on Mob: 07793557322 or email allfiredarts@gmail.com or see the rates card attached to this email.

Example schools projects have included:

#1. Wall tile installation – all pupils painted a 6’ square wall tile depicting their favourite element of school; these were then grouted on to a school wall as a legacy project.

#2. GCSE Pop Art project – y10 and 11 students explored the medium of ceramic, transposing their designs on to plates and tiles for extra credit.

#3. Enrichments summer school students designed and painted their own superhero character, thinking about their super powers and similarities in character to themselves.

#4. Wall of handprints, primary-colour ceramic handprints of all the children in the year group, with names and ages, glazed and then grouted to the wall. A lovely welcoming wave of hellos to all visitors to the school.

#5. Greek mythology plates, yr7 students designed their own Greek style key patterns and then featured their favourite Greek god as the centrepiece of their design.

We also regularly visit other community group settings, such as the Northfield Stroke club, Pensioner sunshine clubs and care homes to offer themed sessions for group users and residents. Last year these were tailored around seasonal events, Christmas baubles and bunny egg cup at Easter for example. Sessions themed to Valentines, Mother’s Day, Fathers Day, Halloween, Diwali etc also possible.

Last year for the first time we went out to local nurseries in the run up to Christmas and offered our hand and foot printing services in situe. Parents were able to order their items on a bespoke order form in advance and have these made on site and then returned ready for Christmas at reduced rates negotiated with nursery staff.

If you work or volunteer in a school, nursery or community setting or know someone who does, please feel free to forward them this information. I love working in these settings and really want to expand this area of my work over the next few years.

All Fired Arts Scoop Gold at the Kings Heath Business Excellence Awards

23 January 2013

Night Out – the best night out in Kings Heath
New addition – the most valuable addition to Kings Heath in the past 12 months
Shop I can’t live without (Independent and Chain) – that one shop which you really need!
That’s so Kings Heath – The shop which best sums up Kings Heath for you

We’d just like to take the opportunity to thank all our customers, visitors and friends for their votes and continued support. We think Kings Heath is a fabulous place to be based and really love bringing a taste of creativity to this fabulous community.

After celebrating our 2nd Birthday in November, we are still a relatively young business in the area, but have been embraced by the local business owners and are really starting to feel like an established part of the community.

Myself and my staff always strive to give the best level of customer service and without them I’d be lost, so a BIG THANK YOU to all my employees past and present, you ARE amazing, and have helped me immensely to achieve my vision. I’d like to dedicate our gold “Service with a Smile” award to you all!

Setting up in business, especially in times of financial decline, is one of the hardest jobs I’ve ever had! The hours are long, the financial rewards aren’t great and the emotional demands are immense, so to know that we are offering a service which is both enjoyed, appreciated and respected by the people of our community really does mean a massive amount. Knowing that people really think of us as being “SO Kings Heath” is truly flattering, we will respond by continuing to offer the best service we can, keep our shop window bright and inviting and get out in to the community as much as possible to schools and community groups, to share our love of all things creative! To find out about of reduced community rates and discounts, just give us a call or drop us an email to allfiredarts@gmail.com

Thanks again and a BIG congratulations to all the other very worthy winners and runners up, very well deserved and thanks to the BID team for all your hard work in organising and administering the awards process – for more information on how to get involved in the BID or find out more about what’s going on in Kings Heath please check out this website http://enjoykingsheath.com
